2nd Free Federal Employees Food Distribution Session Added!

WHAT: Catholic Charities of Tennessee, through its Loaves and Fishes Community Meals for the Hungry program in East Nashville and in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, will be hosting an emergency food distribution for the area's federal government employees on Saturday, January 26, from 10-11am at its Holy Name Parish Center location (508 Main Street, Nashville, 37206). The distribution will consist of fresh, frozen, and nonperishable foods and be free-of-charge.

WHY #1: The current federal government shutdown has impacted approximately 800,000 federal government employees across the country and their families. A few are working (albeit without compensation), while most are prohibited from performing their duties. All have gone without at least one paycheck; a second missed payday is coming soon. According to a recent WTVF/News Channel 5 report, "The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reports the partial government shutdown currently impacts more than 25,000 Tennesseans."

WHY #2: "Hunger is one of the pillars of poverty we face on a daily basis," explained Pamela Russo, Catholic Charities of Tennessee Executive Director. "We estimate that in addition to the more than 25,000 hot, nutritious meals served to our low income and no income neighbors at Loaves and Fishes last year, Catholic Charities distributed around 35 tons of food through a host of ‘emergency/special need' distributions at various sites around the region."

"Hosting this distribution specifically for federal employees impacted by the shutdown and their families is simply another way that we are working with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to address hunger needs in our community."

• This free-of-charge distribution is only for federal employees impacted by the current federal government shutdown.
• A federal employee ID card is required for each recipient.
• Although some of the food items may be prepacked in cartons, recipients should plan to bring bags and/or boxes for their distribution items, as well.

WHEN: Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 10am - 11am (as long as supplies last).

WHERE: Holy Name Parish Center, 508 Main Street, Nashville, TN 37206.
