Catholic Charities offers pregnancy, adoption support (Tennessee Register)

Posted 05/03/2019

Catholic Charities of Tennessee offers a range of services and support for women facing un-planned pregnancies as well as for couples looking to adopt either domestically or internationally.

Catholic Charities counselors can help women determine if they are ready to parent a child or guide them through the adoption process. If a woman chooses to parent her child, Catholic Charities can offer resources and referrals.

"For example, if a woman decides to parent and isn't able to afford formula or needs breastfeeding support we would refer them to the WIC program; if they need assistance with housing we might refer them to Catholic Charities Empower program; for material assistance we might support her through items in our closet," said Julie Bolles, supervisor for adoptions and pregnancy counseling for Catholic Charities.

Catholic Charities offers pregnancy counseling free of charge, thanks in part to support from the Bishop's Annual Appeal for Ministries.

If a woman chooses adoption, Catholic Charities seeks to maintain open adoptions, which means the birth mother can select adoptive parents and have the possibility of an on-going relationship. Catholic Charities' Caring Choices offers licensed adoption services approved by the state of Ten-nessee, and placement services are offered without regard to religious, ethnic, cultural and racial background.

For couples seeking to adopt a child domestically or internationally, Catholic Charities counselors can guide them through the process, conduct home studies, and offer ongoing support with parent-ing classes.
