Creating Hope by Assisting Parents (CHAP): MONTGOMERY COUNTY

CHAP is a free, voluntary service where parents can learn and enhance their parenting skills in a group setting. This program is designed to improve parental effectiveness by providing a clear set of positive parenting skills and strategies which can be used immediately to address a variety of child-rearing challenges and problems. Some of the most common topics explored with parents are:
• Child development
• Communication
• Nurturing & caring routines
• Family routines.

Counseling and referrals services are offered to help families deal with a variety of challenges such as changes in family structure, isolation, personal history of abuse and developmental changes (attention deficit, physical disabilities, etc.)

Parents who participate in these groups can expect information and support in dealing with the challenges of parenting, opportunities to interact with other parents in a group setting and assistance with resource referrals as needed. CHAP counselors can help parents transform their experiences, doubts and fears, regarding parenting, into knowledge and confidence they need to build positive discipline, communication and self-esteem

Eligibility Criteria:
Reside in Montgomery County
Have at least 1 child in the 0-8 range
Willingness to participate in a parenting group
