Volunteer

Catholic Charities of Tennessee, Inc. is able to provide quality service thanks to the helping hands and hearts of our volunteers. We appreciate the gifts of their time and talents. Family Mentor – Become a friend to refugees by aiding them in acclimating to American culture and moving toward self-sufficiency. Tasks may include transportation assistance for medical or other assistance appointments and/or teaching life skills such as operating a stove safely, developing a family budget, use of cleaning products, how and where to purchase groceries and other necessities, etc.

English Language Tutor – With training and materials provided through our Refugee English Program, enable the elderly, women with small children and other homebound refugees to develop conversational English skills by reading, writing and speaking the language.

American Friend – Visit a refugee elder once a week for conversational English lessons as well as social acculturation.

Youth Assistant – Aide refugee youth in improving academic performance and attaining goals of higher education by acting as their tutor. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Office Assistant – Assist program staff by compiling statistics, filing, data entry and creating mailings.

Personal Clothing Shopper – Utilizing our partner clothing bank resource, assist refugees in selecting clothing that is appropriate for current weather conditions and for school, work and play.

Immunizations Assistant – Assist refugee parents with scheduling and arriving at immunization appointments for their children, obtaining immunization records and providing necessary records to schools in a timely fashion.

Elders Assistant – Aide in facilitating a fun and engaging social meeting for Refugee Elders including help in transportation to and from the meeting, assisting in ESL presentations and creating a positive environment for peer interaction.

Resettlement Assistant – Assist refugees and staff by guiding refugees through various assistance programs and appointments to obtain WIC benefits, state ID, GED classes, etc.
