Transportation Volunteer
Purpose and Impact: Catholic Charities of Tennessee Refugee and Immigration Services provide a wide array of programs to help newly-arrived refugees acquire skills they need to acclimate to American culture and responsibilities. Though many of our clients rely on public transit for some of their needs, this option is not always feasible or sufficient. Adequate and reliable transportation is vital to our clients' wellbeing, whether it's access to an English language class, transportation to an important medical appointment, or getting groceries for their family. With just a few hours of driving time, you can fill in the transportation gap that proves to be one of the most difficult barriers to self-sufficiency and improvement that our clients face.
Tasks and Responsibilities: Examples of transportation needs include, but are not limited, to:
•Transport clients to and from important location points (for example: home, work, grocery stores, clothing stores, doctors' offices, etc.)
•Transportation to and from place of employment, before our client can arrange ride-sharing with co-workers (this is also a great opportunity to provide moral support and advice regarding settling in to a new work environment)
•Drive and assist with client errands
Required Skills: Clean driving record; familiarity with the Nashville metro area; must be a safe and conscientious driver; ability to interact respectfully with our clients
