The Program Assistant will be under the direction of the Program Coordinator and will assist with daily operations. Refugee Youth Mentoring Program Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA position)

The Refugee Youth Mentoring Program Coordinator VISTA will gain valuable skills in program management. The VISTA member will develop, implement, and sustain the facilitation of mentoring matches in the areas of participant recruitment, screening, mentor training, and match supervision – expanding the scope of supportive services available to refugee youth in Nashville, Tennessee. The VISTA member will collaborate with a cohort of VISTA members serving in the same capacity with partner agencies in Chattanooga, Memphis, and Knoxville – meeting regularly with a Statewide Coordinator to develop best practices, participate in trainings, and troubleshoot complex issues. The VISTA member will develop and implement an outreach plan to build the Refugee Youth Mentoring Program’s effectiveness, efficiency, and scope – increasing the capacity of local refugee service networks by strengthening and expanding partnerships with key stakeholders. Additionally, the VISTA member will grow analytical and critical thinking skills while researching and developing programmatic best practices; developing data collection and program analysis processes; and pursuing available grant resources to ensure program sustainability.

English Language Instruction Tutor Program Coordinator – Tennessee Office for Refugees (AmeriCorps VISTA position)

The VISTA member will develop a statewide in-home tutoring program that can be duplicated for partnering organization across Tennessee. The project will include curriculum development, establishing training processes, and program implementation. The VISTA member will increase ELI program capacity statewide by researching and evaluating existing curricula; designing and conducting community assessments of existing resources; and collecting and analyzing data to make program improvements. The VISTA member will expand the ability of state and local level organizations to respond to the ELI needs of their clients by developing an outreach plan – building new and strengthen existing relationships with key stakeholders and providers, potential volunteers, and refugee communities. Additionally, the VISTA member will evaluate the sustainability of the program and develop additional resources as needed.

Tennessee Refugee Program Resource Development Coordinator – Tennessee Office for Refugees (AmeriCorps VISTA position)

The VISTA member will engage in resource mapping and assessment to inform VISTA project direction – supporting the Tennessee Office for Refugees (TOR), partner agencies, and key stakeholders to develop and increase the capacity to meet the needs of newly arrived refugees and other eligible populations. The VISTA member will develop and implement strategies to support communication pathways to increase opportunities for collaboration amongst stakeholders; expand program materials; and utilize social media and technology platforms to raise public awareness about refugee communities and support service program offerings. The VISTA member will identify key success indicators and measurement methods to inform programmatic improvements with best practices and pursue available grant resources to ensure program sustainability.

Refugee Youth Mentors

Are you looking for an opportunity to be a positive role model in a young person’s life and support the refugee population in Nashville? Apply to be a Refugee Youth Mentor today!

Here at Catholic Charities, the Young Adult Refugee Youth Mentoring Program caters to the needs of youth and young adults ages 15-24 who are working towards their academic, social-emotional, and vocational goals. We are seeking caring mentors who can work with mentees on goal-setting, academic help and college application support, social-emotional learning, and getting adjusted to Nashville. You will receive training before being matched as well as ongoing support from Catholic Charities for the duration of your mentorship.

Hours are flexible, and virtual or in-person options are available.

Requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Commit to six months of mentoring for 1-2 hours/week
  • Background check, fingerprinting, and pre-match training
  • Sincere desire to be a supportive figure in the life of a refugee youth
  • Respect people of different cultural backgrounds
