What Is a Family Resource Center
A family resource center is a central location where residents can come to receive a wide variety of services, including help in an immediate crisis as well as ongoing services that reduce the overall reliance on government services.
Catholic Charities’ goal is to have a positive multi-generational impact on the families we serve. FRC programs provide both a safety net for families in crisis and enhanced services that foster independence from government support for multiple generations. We focus on job training, life skills (e.g. financial management), and building healthy, stable families. Our multi-faceted cohesive service model concentrates on the “Three E’s,” emergency assistance, emotional support, and employment services.
Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker (MIHOW) Program
A peer mentoring initiative that is focused on supporting expectant and new families in underserved and rural areas is offered in the County Expansion locations as well as our FRC at Casa Azafran. The evidence-based program designed by Vanderbilt University aims to promote healthier pregnancies and strengthen early childhood development for women whose families include children from birth to age three. Local Teams
Each Family Resource Center has a dedicated team that understands and champions the unique needs of the community they serve. All teams have access to the collective expertise and experience of Catholic Charities formally trained and professionally certified and licensed staff.
Leveraging the Catholic Church Network
Catholic Charities leverages the large Catholic Church parish network across Middle Tennessee to support our mission and to provide volunteers and family mentors for our neighbors. Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville’s County Expansion Program has been recognized nationally as a model for diocesan rural community outreach and support. Parish support—financial, volunteer, and advocacy— for our services at all locations is critical to our mission: Following Christ’s example, we recognize the dignity of all people and serve our neighbors.
