From Judy K. Orr, Executive Director:
Our long tradition of assisting expectant and new mothers has received a boost, as we were selected to implement a new program initiated by the State of Tennessee. We will be working hard to address challenges and support moms through a whole-person approach to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. Governor Bill Lee’s Tennessee Strong Families initiative expands assistance for our neighbors with young children. The program taps our proven experience of delivering sustainable impact to those in need throughout Middle Tennessee. Catholic Charities’ Pregnancy Counseling and Adoption Services staff will grow in order to provide: – Direct services for pregnancy support, which can include mental health or other counseling services – Support for Tennesseans who are considering adoption – Workforce assistance to prepare new moms for self-sufficiency – Housing assistance to help moms in crisis find a safe and stable place to live – Additional wraparound services to support vulnerable mothers and their children When announcing the fund, the Governor’s statement affirmed our longstanding commitment to support young families just starting out as well as expectant mothers at any stage of pregnancy.
Reaching out to our neighbors beyond Davidson County A new grant by the state of Tennessee will enable us to open our fourth hub location. We are currently searching for a program coordinator to manage our new Cookeville family resource center location. Modeled on our Clarksville, Columbia, and Tullahoma offices, the new FRC will be able to assist our Putnam County neighbors who struggle with basic needs, family challenges, and job placement. We will also be expanding services in the other three FRC’s with the help of this grant. If you know someone with social services experience, who would love to work in a great faith-based organization, check out our job openings at job postings. We also need volunteers to help in all of these locations and especially invite nearby parishioners to check out our volunteer opportunities. This new funding began July 1, and we are eager to staff up to continue our commitment to those in need in Middle Tennessee.
A few words from one of our grateful neighbors Please see below a testimonial from one of our neighbors. This is why we do, what we do: Pictured is Caitlyn Harper, Catholic Charities Family-Centered Coach in Sumner County, with Jill, the neighbor who met program goals to achieve renewed self-reliance. Join us in our mission! Just like Jill, our neighbors need help with high housing costs and job skills training to make a fresh start. Please partner with us today here to support one of these programs or donate to the areas of greatest need. Giving is easy. Simply click here or mail your donation to Catholic Charities, 2806 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214. Thank you for your support of our neighbors. P.S. Together we all share the moral imperative to live out our faith through good works and to recognize the dignity of all people. We couldn’t do this work without you. Gifts from individual donors pay for electric bills—especially important during the hot summer—as well as rent assistance and food. Your gifts also provide scholarships for counseling and job training. Please consider making your gift before the end of the month to help us meet our goal. God bless you! #EveryDonationCounts #LoveHopeHealing |
