History of Black Arts

Let’s celebrate the Black History Month together at our Family Resource Center at C.E McGruder! What an important event to highlight what African American artists — poets, writers, visual artist, and dancers — have historically served as change agents through their art.

Free backpacks, school supplies, dental screenings, haircuts, health screenings, and more! We are so pleased to once again partner with Charm Foundation and support the goal of providing backpacks filled with school supplies to 1,200 deserving local children.

 

Fundraiser for the Vaughn-Thomas Borum Teen Counseling Fund

The Vaughn-Thomas Borum Teen Counseling Fund will hold a fundraiser at Top Golf on Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds benefitting Catholic Charities’ counseling programs.

Refugee Volunteer Informational Meeting

Catholic Charities has many opportunities to help refugee families and youth in Middle Tennessee.

In particular, we have about 70 openings to serve as an Afghan Family Mentor Volunteer.

Members from our volunteer team are hosting a virtual informational meeting to help you learn about volunteer opportunities and ask any questions before you apply to be a volunteer. Our team will also review the application process so you know exactly what to expect.

El Festival de Esperanza

El Festival de Esperanza – meaning “festival of hope” – is our most important annual fundraiser. Please come celebrate the thousands of people who have sought and found healing through our work since 1962.  It will be an amazing evening filled with a spirit of reunion  in the context of a fun, Cuban-themed festival in honor of our special guests.

Adult Support Group for Bombing Survivors

Many people who have experienced a disaster or traumatic event find that the anniversary of that event can bring troubling reminders, symptoms, and stress.

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville, and the MNPD Family Intervention Program will be offering an open support group on the evenings of November 30 and December 14 for adults impacted by the December 2020 bombing. Both support groups will take place at Casa Azafran, 2195 Nolensville Rd.

The group will be led by trained trauma therapists who will facilitate an atmosphere of mutual support and connection around the themes of reflection and resilience.

Nashville SC IMPACT Soccer Pop-Up Tour

Want to check out a real kid-sized soccer mini-pitch built by Nashville Soccer Club? The Nashville SC IMPACT Soccer Pop-Up Tour sponsored by BODYARMOR is partnering with us from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 12 at our Catholic Charities Family Resource Center at C. E. McGruder (2013 25th Avenue North).

Don’t miss this cool pop-up event, which will include family-friendly soccer activities, inflatable pitches, 3v3 tournaments, and drills for soccer skills. Street teams from the Nashville SC and BODYARMOR will be onsite to provide fanfare, music, prizes, and giveaways.

Please join us at this fun and festive event, which is free and open to any youth.

SewPop 2021 Open Market

SewPOP is a student marketplace that showcases the work of Sewing Training Academy students and friends of the school.

The year’s SewPOP Open Market will be held Saturday, December 4, at The Clay Lady Campus, 1416 Lebanon Pike. The market is open to the public, and admission is free.

The event will showcase Nashville makers, including fiber artists, ceramicists, hat makers, sculptors, fine artists, ethnic clothing makers, jewelry makers, designers, boutique fashion shops and more. It will be the perfect opportunity to purchase unique gifts for the holidays while shopping local.

The market is being held in conjunction with The Clay Lady’s Annual Holiday Sale, which will be just steps away from the STA market.

Purchase a ticket to enjoy first dibs on shopping, silent auction, entertainment, and food & drinks. (The price of the ticket includes two drink tickets and two food tickets.)

Pattern Drafting II

A continuation of Pattern Drafting I, this course focuses on the advancement of technical skills through the completion of complex pattern drafting projects.  Emphasis is on precision and the mastery of drafting techniques. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Draft basic torso and pant slopers;
  • Demonstrate the use of slopers to create complex designs;
  • Apply clothing construction skills to develop muslin samples for dress form fit evaluations;
  • Apply use of slopers to create assigned styles; and
  • Utilize slopers to create original designs.

This course is for current Sewing Training Academy students only.

Weekly Group Therapy Sessions for Survivors

Catholic Charities is hosting online virtual meetings on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 17 for anyone impacted by the December 25 bombing in Nashville.

Each session will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. These sessions are free and open to anyone. All you need is Zoom to join in.

Our therapists create safe spaces where survivors of trauma can find support, reflect on their experiences, and begin healing. Catholic Charities is pleased to offer this resource and the expertise of our trauma therapists to the Nashville community.
